Welcome to Lockleaze Primary School!
‘Caring together, learning together’.
Welcome to our school website. Opening in September 2006, following the amalgamation of Romney Avenue Infants and Junior Schools, Lockleaze Primary School is situated in a newly refurbished spacious modern building with extensive grounds and play areas. However, it is not a building that makes a good school, it is the people. And the children, parents, governors and staff have already made this school a great place to be.
New visitors will be struck by the purposeful learning atmosphere throughout the school, finding children who are relaxed and engaged in their lessons. This is the result of two key factors:
i) A supportive and caring ethos that encourages children to make positive choices and take responsibility.
ii) Lessons that are well taught, interesting and relevant to the children.
How do we encourage children to make positive choices? First of all, we believe that the children who do the right thing get noticed. Too often children get attention for doing the wrong thing. Secondly, we give the children the opportunity to make choices and take responsibility. We encourage children to think about what is the right decision for them and for others.
How do we make lessons interesting and relevant? It’s far easier to learn when you’re enjoying doing something meaningful. As a school, we are constantly improving teaching and learning with an emphasis on enjoyment and achievement.
Our curriculum is also enriched through our many links with the wider community and business. For example, a group of children in Year 5 and 6 work each week with a professional journalist from the Big Issue to produce their own high quality magazine. Others work with mentors from the University of West England. Other projects are lead by artists, drama teachers, actors, sports coaches, writers, musicians and dancers all sharing their talents and skills with our children.
I hope you enjoy our website and that it gives you a taste of what life is like at Lockleaze Primary School. If there is anything we can do to assist you, please get in touch.
